Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Statement by Alan Simpson OBE, Lord-Lieutentant of Stirling and Falkirk

The whole of Stirling and Falkirk will join me in mourning the death of Her Majesty The Queen.  It is a time of great sadness for the whole country, the Commonwealth and, of course, her family.

After more than 70 years on the throne, Her Majesty was the longest serving Head of State in the world and the longest ever serving monarch in the British Isles.  During her reign she was an inspiration to millions of people throughout the UK and Commonwealth.  Hers was a life of selfless dedication to duty. It was on her 21st birthday 75 years ago that the then Princess Elizabeth said, “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service.” That was a promise that she never broke, and we are indeed very fortunate that her life was long and we have able to benefit from her example and extraordinary wisdom over many years.  She was a symbol of stability and constancy during a period of unprecedented change.

Her last visit to Stirling was in June 2021 when she was welcomed to Stirling Castle to open the new Museum of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.  In 2017 she came to the Kelpies and opened a new stretch of canal to the sea.  Everyone present on either occasion will remember how happy and cheerful she was.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to His Majesty The King and the other members of the Royal Family.  We look forward to supporting His Majesty through the years ahead.
